Aerie’s Unretouched Ads

Now we’re talking!

Aerie, American Eagle’s sister store for lingerie has taken an admirable step in their Spring 2014 ad campaign, which launched last Friday.

Here’s the twist: They announced that their new ads are “challenging supermodel standards by featuring unretouched models in their latest collection of bras, undies and apparel.”

Every fashion magazine, ad and look book goes through Photoshop, from slight blemish fixes and lighting adjustments to full-out nip/tucks and skin tone changes – a problematic practice as young women tend to idealize images of female beauty they see in the media.

Even though the girls are still models, at least Aerie is trying to be real, sending the message that no matter what curves, lines or rolls you might have, you can still look beautiful in your own skin.
