American children’s educator and YouTube star Rachel Griffin-Accurso, widely known as Ms. Rachel, turned heads at Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year 2025 awards in New York. The long-time advocate for children worldwide wore a unique dress featuring artwork created by children in Gaza, blending fashion with a powerful message of empathy and hope.
The Dress: A Gallery of Children’s Stories
Ms. Rachel’s upcycled black gown, overlaid with cream fabric, became more than just a fashion statement. Each embroidered illustration reflected the experiences and resilience of young Palestinians. She collaborated closely with the children to ensure their voices and stories were faithfully represented.

Spotlight on the Young Artists
The artwork carried deep emotional weight. Ahmed, one of the young artists, drew a small boy carrying his home on his shoulders — a haunting image symbolizing displacement and loss. Another child, Luna, painted a girl hugging a slice of watermelon, a cherished symbol of Palestinian identity and love for her homeland. Together, their drawings reflected both heartbreak and unshakable hope.

Carrying Their Stories
On the red carpet, Ms. Rachel also held printed portraits of the children whose work adorned her dress. She explained, “I’m carrying their stories in my heart. They all know about the dress, and they’re so excited.”

Advocacy Beyond the Red Carpet
With over 17.6 million YouTube subscribers and 13 billion views, Ms. Rachel has long used her platform to spotlight children in crisis zones, from Gaza to Sudan and Ukraine. She has shared stories of children like Rahaf, a 3-year-old double amputee from Gaza, and advocated for Palestinian journalists, using her media reach to amplify voices often unheard.

A Gesture of Empathy and Hope
By wearing the artwork of Gaza’s children, Ms. Rachel turned a glamorous moment into a platform for global awareness. Her gesture highlighted that care and advocacy for children know no borders, and that even on a red carpet, their voices deserve recognition.
