The Egyptian government has announced that Saturday, November 1st, 2025, will be a paid public holiday to coincide with the long-anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. The decision aims to facilitate the movement of international delegations attending the event and give Egyptians the chance to follow the global celebration.
The announcement came after a meeting chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, and Mohamed El-Saadi, board member of United Media Services and general supervisor of the opening ceremony.

Following the president’s directive, Prime Minister Madbouly issued a decree granting the day off — a one-time paid holiday for employees across ministries, government bodies, local administrations, and public-sector companies.
While not an annual holiday, the move underscores the magnitude of the museum’s inauguration — a historic cultural moment Egypt has been preparing for and the world has been waiting to witness.
