Caricature has long been woven into the fabric of Egyptian identity, serving across decades as a mirror of struggles and a celebration of life’s realities. This art form now returns to its roots in an exhibition under the “The Nile Has a Lot to Do… to Honor the Egyptian Identity” initiative, running from August 13 to 17 at the Hanager Arts Center’s Adam Henein Hall in Cairo.
Led by Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Heno and supported by various cultural institutions, the initiative highlights the Nile’s profound role in shaping Egypt’s heritage from ancient times to today.
The exhibition opens today at 6:30 PM, attended by Ministry of Culture officials and leading caricature artists, including Mustafa El Sheikh (President, Egyptian Caricature Association), Fawzy Morsi (Secretary-General), and Shaimaa Shafei (Exhibition Coordinator), as part of a theatre sector event led by renowned director Khaled Galal.
It will feature 52 works by more than 40 artists from over 20 countries, blending satire and artistry to capture the river’s timeless significance. Here are some of these pieces:
Tadeusz Krotos, Poland
Izabela Kowalska, Poland
Igor Smirnov, Russia
Shimaa Shafei, Egypt
Andrea Pecchia, Italy
Silmara Araujo, Brazil
