Zamalek Fans, This One is For You! Happy 109th!
Today is an important day for sports in Egypt, as it marks the 109th anniversary for the Zamalek Sporting Club. Zamalek S. C. is one of the most popular clubs in Egypt, dating back to 1911.
When it was founded, the club’s name was Qasr El Nile Club, which was changed two years later to El Mokhtalat Club. In 1941, it was changed to King Farouk Club, and only got its current name after the 1952 Revolution.
In its history, Zamalek’s Handball Team won the African Champions League 12 times, making it the team that won the prestigious title the most in the continent. The club is definitely known for its football team; the most popular sport in Egypt. It is one half of Egypt’s Derby, alongside their longtime rival, El Ahly Sporting Club.
The football team also has a lot of continental achievements, winning five CAF Champions League, one CAF Confederate Cup, three CAF Super Cups, and one African Cup Winners’ Cup title. This makes Zamalek not only one of the most successful football clubs in Egypt, but also in Africa!
