We’re officially living in the age of bite-sized entertainment. Between scrolling through TikTok and squeezing in episodes between plans, committing to a 45-minute episode can sometimes feel like a lot.
That’s where mini-dramas come in. Recently, Egyptian filmmakers have been experimenting with series made up of ultra-short episodes, some running for no more than two minutes. The result is fast-paced stories you can easily binge without giving up your entire evening.
Here are four Egyptian mini-dramas to add to your watchlist:
1. Qalb Maftouh
To save their marriage, a couple played by Karim Adriano and Reem Rafat head off on a couples’ retreat. But what starts as an attempt to fix their relationship quickly takes a darker turn when their web of secrets begins to unravel.
Soon, it’s not just their marriage at stake; their lives are, too.
2. Ibn El Sherka
After his father’s death, Adam, played by Ahmed El Sherbiny, discovers that the family company is in serious financial trouble and could go under within two years.
Rather than sit back and watch it happen, Adam decides to take matters into his own hands. Going undercover, he sets out to uncover what’s really going on inside the company and figure out who, or what, is behind its problems.
3. Tattoo
Played by Marwan Younis, a professional tattoo artist returns to Egypt after spending years in the US, only to find himself caught up in a mystery involving a hacker who has been exposing secrets belonging to high-profile celebrities and business figures.
To uncover the hacker’s identity, he teams up with journalist Farida Al-Alfi, played by Miran Abdel Warith. As the clues start piling up, the pair must figure out who’s behind the attacks before the mystery is finally revealed.
4. Altamthilia
If suspense is more your thing, Altamthilia might be worth adding to your list.
After an advertising company manager is murdered, a police officer, played by Eslam Gamal, begins questioning the company’s employees. But as he digs deeper, he discovers that the murder is only the beginning.
From illegal activities and secret affairs to hidden motives, there’s much more going on behind the scenes than initially meets the eye.
So, the next time you’re bored but only have a few minutes to spare, one of these mini-dramas might be exactly what you need.
