Wrapped In A Palestinian Flag, A Protester In Atlanta Sets Fire To Themselves

It’s almost two months into the Israel-Gaza war that has been characterized with disproportion. The death toll in Gaza at this moment according to Euro-Med Statistics is more than 21,000 Civilians. This “unprecedented massacre” as adjectivized by Sheikh of Al Azhar seems to be pushing people over the edge.

On Friday, December 1, in Atlanta outside the Israeli consulate, a person whose gender and age remain unidentified set fire to themselves using gasoline while wrapped in the Palestinian flag. According to reputable news outlets, police officials say the incident is not a terrorist attack but an extreme protest act.

According to the associated Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, he added that investigators did not believe there was any connection to terrorism and none of the consular staff was ever in danger. “We do not see any threat here…We believe it was an act of extreme political protest that occurred.” The protester was severely injured, along with two others who tried to intervene.
