If your riding a cab and the driver told you that your ride is being monitored, will you feel safe or uncomfortable? The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has started fitting taxis affiliated to the Public Transport Agency with surveillance cameras. Through these cameras, RTA will be able to monitor taxi drivers and verify the extent of their compliance with the professional driving standards as well as moral attitudes.

According to Adel Shakri Director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, Surveillance cameras have been installed in about 6,500 taxis out of a total fleet comprising 10,221 cabs. The project will cover the remainder of taxis this year.

This step is compatible with RTA’s third Strategic Goal which is “People Happiness” and it also fits the needs of the Smart City initiative of the government.

Then the footage of these cameras can be retrieved in case of any violations reported during the taxi trips to eliminate any complaints from service beneficiaries. This service can also be useful in case a passenger forgot his/her personal belongings as they would be able to get it back as easy as ever before.

WE SAID THIS: This service will increase riders’ security and comfort and thereby maximizing their satisfaction
