Eventtus Raises 1.2 Million EGP in Funding
Congratulations to Egypt-based Eventtus, an event engagement app and social network that just got 1.2 million EGP in funding from Vodafone Ventures Egypt and Cairo Angels!
And this was just the first round. There’s nothing else like Eventtus in the region and with the investors they’ve got behind them now, we expect them to receive more support and with it, a roll out of new and improved features, including a ticketing option coming soon.
“We are extremely excited!” the team wrote in their blog. “We’re cooking amazing features and new app release coming in the next few weeks. We’re really just getting started.”
Eventtus began in May 2011 when founders Nihal Fares, Mai Medhat and Ahmed Shreef met each other at Startup Weekend Cairo. Since then, they’ve hit the ground running.
The app, available on Android and iPhone and also accessible as a website, provides a listing of events and makes recommendations based on people’s interests and location. Users are able to RSVP, connect with other attendees, share photos and video, make comments and create polls all within the app, which can be linked to Facebook and Twitter.
Eventtus also enables organizers to target their audience, share announcements and updates about their event and provides them with reports about attendees’ activities on the app during their event.
Seasoned investors and entrepreneurs Con O’Donnell, Hossam Allam and Mohammed Al-Ayouti are behind the 1.2 million in funding.
“They have been working closely with us for long time and they believed in us from the beginning,” the Eventtus team wrote of their patrons. “We are so happy to have them on board, their expertise is definitely invaluable in growing our company.”
