Eish W Gebna: Cairo’s Cheese Enthusiasts are up for a new Challenge

It’s beautiful to see the restaurants’ scene being influenced and shaped by the dynamic and changing taste of the people. In the last couple of years, cheese became everything, and people are in love with everything associated with it. Even on social media platforms, visually appealing posts of food flooded with melted cheese gets the most engagement.

As a hardcore cheese addict, I tend to try every new restaurant that uses cheese in a new and creative way; thus, why I paid a visit to Eish W Gebna. As my friends and family know about my obsession, I get tagged in cheese posts literally every day, and I was tagged in Eish W Gebna’s posts several times; so it was about time I went on and saw what the fuss was all about!

The restaurant has a huge place in G-Out Mall in the heart of the Fifth Settlement, near Choueifat street. Even though we went on a weekday, the place was a bit crowded, so I imagine it would be way more crowded on weekends. The menu is diverse and has a lot of creative cheesy creations; therefore you might have a hard time deciding what to order.

We ordered their brand new creation, The Mess Burger, and one Crispy Chicken Cheese Skillet. The food didn’t take long to get ready, and we were up for a treat. The Mess Burger, as you can see from the pictures, is the most gracious cheese creation I’ve seen for a long while. It’s a burger patty between two fried french toasts; one of them is stuffed with a majestic amount of melted cheese!

From the first bite, I knew I fell in love. Of course, the sandwich, as you can guess from its name and description, needed gloves, and indeed it was messy. The taste of the meat, caramelized onion, fried toast, and melted cheese, was absolute heaven. We also loved the Cheese Skillet, as unlike other restaurants who do the same concept, what’s in the skillet is actually a tasty cheese mix, not a bechamel sauce with some cheese.

The skillet is served with some nacho chips, but we ordered some bread to create our own sandwiches. My only problem with the place was that the bread wasn’t super fresh, but the overall experience is just amazing, and the staff is really friendly. I’m looking forward to future visits to try out their signature breakfast, desserts, and salads (especially the chicken quinoa salad).
