Dubai’s $96 Million Investment: Upgrades Planned for Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 Beaches

Dubai is set to undergo a significant transformation with the announcement of the renovation of two of its most popular beaches: Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1. These beaches will be closed for 18 months as part of an extensive redevelopment project that promises to redefine the leisure experience for residents and tourists alike.

Project Overview

The comprehensive project, valued at Dh355 million, is part of a broader urban planning initiative aimed at enhancing public spaces in Dubai. The redevelopment will span a 4.3 km stretch of Al Mamzar Beach and a 1.4 km section of Jumeirah 1, with an expected completion timeline of 18 months.

Main Project Aspects

The Beaches

The redevelopment of Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 beaches will introduce a range of modern amenities and facilities. These will include 11 km of dedicated bicycle and running tracks, a 5 km tree-lined promenade, and designated spaces for barbecues, fitness activities, and children’s entertainment.

Additionally, the beaches will feature beachfront rest houses, seasonal event venues, and various conveniences such as Wi-Fi connectivity, electronic screens, and beach rescue services.

The Floating Bridge

One of the most exciting aspects of the project is the construction of a groundbreaking floating bridge at Al Mamzar Beach. This 200-meter-long pedestrian bridge will be the first of its kind in Dubai, allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views and venture deep over the water without getting wet.

The bridge will connect the two ends of Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 beaches and is expected to be the main attraction of the area after the reopening.

The Cycling Tracks

The project will significantly enhance the cycling and running infrastructure, adding 11 km of dedicated tracks surrounded by trees to provide a pleasant and safe environment for fitness enthusiasts. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy 2033.

Additional Features and Investments

In addition to the primary features, the renovated beaches will include numerous other facilities, such as 1,400 parking spaces, automated irrigation systems, and over 100 security cameras to ensure the safety of beachgoers.

The authorities have also announced 50 investment opportunities, ranging from water sports leasing to commercial outlets and dining establishments. These ventures aim to enrich the beach-going experience and stimulate local business growth and employment opportunities.

Addressing Global Warming and Future Plans

Dubai’s ambitious beach renovation plan is not just about enhancing leisure experiences; it’s also about sustainability and resilience. The beaches will be elevated to mitigate the effects of climate change, a significant concern for coastal cities worldwide.

Over half a million cubic meters of beach sand will be used in the process, based on comprehensive studies to protect the emirate’s beaches.

Dubai’s broader vision includes expanding its coastline by an impressive 400%, offering residents and tourists access to 105 km of public beaches, up from the existing 21 km.

This expansion aligns with the Dubai Master Plan for Public Beaches, Dubai Economic Agenda D33, Dubai Urban Plan 2040, and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033. These initiatives aim to make Dubai the best city to live, work, and visit, as well as a leading destination for beach tourism.

The renovation of Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 beaches marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s urban development. The project’s innovative features, combined with a commitment to sustainability, set new benchmarks for urban living and leisure.
