When is Valentine’s Day? We’re not sure, but it seems to be like, a thing. And honestly, you could care less. This year, you’re sans Valentine, which is great!

No pressure to celebrate another commercial holiday because of perceived societal obligations and corporations and the media shoving it down your throat. To you, Feb. 14 is just another day on the calendar, a non-event, and you wouldn’t want it any other way.

1. Because you’re too busy hustling

hustle

You’re passionate about your work and it has consumed most, if not more than, your free time. You probably only think about Valentine’s Day because you have to, for work, or because your colleagues are talking about it.

Who needs stale candy hearts when you’re building empires, amassing influence, helping others and making paper?

2. Because you’re focusing on yourself

yourself

As they say, you can’t truly love another until you truly love yourself. Regardless of what relationship troubles you’ve had in your past, you’re learning to take care of yourself emotionally so that you don’t need to rely on anyone else to nurse your wounds or nourish your soul.

And you have personal goals that you’re working toward – goals that you don’t want anyone else’s help to attain, goals that you’re not willing to set aside for anything else.

3. Because you’re too busy exploring

siki

You’re exploring yourself and your surroundings, examining details as well as thinking beyond what’s right in front of you. You’re learning something new every day.

We live in a great big world full of intrigue and complexities and weird, wonderful people and devastating stories and inspiring moments and so much love. Every day. Valentine’s Day just doesn’t interest you as much as everything else.

4. Because you can’t deal with relationship drama right now

drama

You have enough of your own shit to deal with, you don’t need the stress of a partner on top of everything else. Just no, thanks.

5. Because you don’t have time for relationship responsibilities

Commitment

A relationship takes a tremendous amount of work, sacrifice and patience. You’re not in a place where you’re willing and/or able to give a relationship the time it deserves and be a full partner, with all of the responsibilities that entails.

Including freaking out about what you’re going to get your special someone for Valentine’s Day and figuring out the perfect thing to do on the 14th and being disappointed, anyway, because it never works out as planned.

6. Because you’d rather spend it with friends

guyfriends

Just like holidays with friends usually tops holidays with family, Valentine’s Day is better spent with your ride-or-die group.

They’ve been excellent wing(wo)men, they’ve consoled you through heartbreak and they’ll be there crying at your wedding – and vice versa. So you can’t think of anyone else with whom you’d rather spend this day of love.

7. Because you’d rather spend it with your couch

pizza

Let’s be honest: You’d rather cuddle with your pet, order a pizza and binge-watch your favorite TV show than go on an awkward date that probably won’t live up to your expectations.

8. Because it’s a bullshit corporate holiday and you’re not bitter at all

Valentine’s Day is just part of a giant worldwide conspiracy to get you to spend money on things you don’t need. Fuck that.

9. Because you’re not in middle school anymore

hearts

Teddy bears and heart-shaped candy? Meh. Unless you’re buying or receiving something in a robin egg blue box (at least) or you’re at a level where you’re shopping for furniture together, Valentine’s Day isn’t worth it.

10. Because you’re too busy being awesome

awesome

When is Valentine’s Day, again? You probably didn’t even realize that it was coming up. You just went about your week as usual, doing the usual awesome things, being your usual awesome self, just doing you.

And don’t you ever stop.

WE SAID THIS: Happy Valentine’s Day from the Empire!
