What to Expect in the Upcoming Gouna Film Festival 2019

By Salma El Gogary

The GFF is an annual film festival established in 2017 and it is held in the Red Sea resort town of El Gouna. We have a lot of speculations about what might happen.

Last year’s GFF was filled with surprises, starting off with the huge attack on the actress Dina El-Sherbiny’s dress, which created a huge wave of cyberbullying, but the actress to our surprise, took the whole matter very light-heartedly.

We’re also expecting huge Hollywood stars to appear just as last year’s stars were featured such as, Owen Wilson, Patrick Dempsey and Sylvester Stallone.

Other honorable mentions include the decorations and the humungous budget spent to make each year more special. Nevertheless, last year’s highlight was Youssef Chahine’s iconic career path, which commemorated the 10th anniversary of his death with a memorable orchestral concert of all the music from his films.

Moving on to the forthcoming 3rd edition of the Festival, which will take place from September 19 until 27, it has been confirmed that the Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud will be attending.

The organizers have also revealed that Mohamed Henedy will be given the Creative Achievement Award for his honorable contributions to cinema, as well as rewarding the Palestinian director Mai Masry with the same award.

Additionally, we’re expecting there to be a commemoration ceremony for our beloved Farouk El-Fishawy as well as Ezzat Abu Auf.

On a happier note, The Knight & The Princess: Egypt’s First Animated Feature Film is confirmed to be shown during the 3rd edition of the GFF.

WE SAID THIS: So what do you think? Will this year’s 3rd edition top last year’s?
