UAE Charities Extending Potable Water Networks in South Egypt
By Aala’ El Gohary
Under the name of ‘Ayadi Zayed’ (The hands of Zayed), UAE charities just concluded yet another campaign as a part of UAE’s humanitarian initiatives during the Year of Zayed. The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), together with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment under the umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, took it upon themselves to provide clean water to rural villages in Egypt.
The 4-days campaign operated in a number of villages within Luxor and Qena governorates. The projects involved extending drinkable water networks to 80 houses, distributing operational projects to around 400 families that included fishing boats, transport motorcycles, and cattle and sheep breeding. It also laid the foundation stone for a housing project in the presence of Major General Abdul Hamid Al-Hagan, Governor of Qena.
In addition to these projects, the campaign’s volunteers also distributed blankets, clothes for children, meat, and food staples for around 600 families. It’s also worth the mention that these are not the first Humanitarian acts to be done by the UAE on the Egyptian territory. This is the second volunteering campaign this year following the first campaign in July 2018.
