“Uriel Ferera, a 19 years old practicing Jew is expected to be imprisoned today for the 5th time. This is his refusal statement (recorded earlier today):
“Hello, my name is Uriel Ferera. I am 19 years old, from Beersheba. I have already spent 70 days in prison, four terms, for refusing to enlist in the army, on conscientious grounds. The reasons are that the army violates human rights in the occupied territories, and kills and humiliates the Palestinians people. For me as a religious person – this goes against the view that god created us all in his own image, and that we have no right to harm human lives. Right now there is an operation in Gaza. The army is attacking targets in which there are innocent people, women and children. I hope that this operation comes to an end, and that the occupation comes to an end, and that we all live in peace on this land. Tomorrow I have to report at the military induction base and refuse once more. I will start my fifth term in prison. And I am proud for going to prison, and not taking part in war crimes.”
