In Pictures: Xenia Nikolskaya Explores Egypt’s Abandoned Castles With Her ‘Dust’ Series

Usually, when someone visits Egypt they go back home with pictures of the great Pyramids, but this wasn’t the case with the Russian-Swedish photographer, Xenia Nikolskaya. She decided to go and explore Egypt’s abandoned castles instead to document the country’s transformative phase and highlight the urgency of reflecting on its history in order to understand its future. Nikolskaya roamed 30 different locations in Egypt including Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Minya, Esna, Port Said, and villages around the Delta as well.
