In Pictures: Glimpses of Iran’s Golden Age You’ll Never Believe

Ruled under King Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Iran before the 1979 Islamic revolution was a different country. The Western and modernized way of life was adopted, allowing some degree of cultural freedom. Women sported Farrah Fawcett haircuts and went to parties! According to historical accounts, Pahlavi was, in fact, a revolutionary leader; he banned the hijab because he believed it suppressed women, he encouraged education for everyone and granted women the right to vote.

Iran during the ’50s and 60’s portrayed a vibrant kingdom that was unfortunately on the brink of change. A shift no one expected to have such long-lasting implications, not only in Iran but the region as a whole.
