From Fearing the Unknown to Owning It – An Egyptian Snack Brand is Sharing Your Story

All accomplishments are worthy of being shared is the solemn belief behind the team of OWN Snacks, led by Noor, Ameer & Mariam Gamali. Inspired by the idea that what you eat determines how you live, the Gamalis started an ongoing campaign, enabling people from around the world to share their stories of how they overcame personal barriers. Big or small, every accomplishment is worthy.

The first story they shared was that of Hana Zuhair, an employee who left an agency to start her own business. Even though she was in a place of self-doubt and uncertainty, she decided to take that leap of faith, and now has a thriving consultancy business. This is what OWN Snacks’ ongoing campaign serves to do. To celebrate anyone who empowered themselves by overcoming their struggles. A significant victory on its own, regardless of its size.

It continued to grow with more and more narratives of how different people managed to surpass their personal obstacles. They posted about a dancer and model that overcame self-consciousness, and a yogi that was told yoga is not a career path. Each and every individual who once thought this goal was unthinkable, in one way or another, found a way to make it happen. And this is what OWN Snacks is all about, creating a platform for people to voice their experiences in a way that motivates both themselves, and others.

One of the many inspiring stories was Lamaan’s, a public speaker that used to have crippling anxiety. Lamaan tells us how she pushed herself beyond her own comfort zone, despite how psychologically and mentally difficult it was. In an intimate setting, the speaker tells her own story about how despite her crippling anxiety, she “[owned] that & that’s ok.”

For each and every struggling individual, it went from fearing the unknown, to owning it. Rising star actress and singer, Tamima Hafez, shares for the first time her insecurities about being judged for something she was self-conscious about. She discusses how she was always weary of how people would view her with every social media post she shared, but how eventually, she found it within herself to pursue her dreams, despite the weight it carried.

More and more people continue to share their story through the platform OWN Snacks provides, and through this platform, the Gamalis have created a movement in which people feel safe to share their personal milestones. It is not about how big or small your accomplishment is, but in going for it to begin with. Through their brand, OWN Snacks has validated so many untold stories and brought them to light, celebrating and inspiring many more to OWN their stories!
