First Time In History: Apartheid State Of Israel Has Been Taken To The International Court Of Justice
According to the International Court of Justice, South Africa has filed an application at the International Court of Justice to begin proceedings over allegations of genocide against Israel for its war on Gaza. The application in question is an 84 page comprehensive document backed with legal and historical evidence that all serve to condemn Israeli genocide in Gaza Strip. The UN court confirmed the application concerning alleged violations of Israel’s obligations under the Genocide Convention.
South Africa accuses Israel of being “In violation of its obligations under the Genocide Convention,” in its application and argues that “acts and omissions by Israel … are genocidal in character, as they are committed with the requisite specific intent … to destroy Palestinians in Gaza,” according to the ICJ.
Israel has rejected South Africa’s allegations, calling them “baseless”. Lior Haiat, a spokesman for Israel’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, said South Africa’s claim “constitutes despicable and contemptuous exploitation of the Court.” He also added that Israel is adhering to international law “…and directs its military efforts only against the Hamas terrorist organization and the other terrorist organizations cooperating with Hamas,”
A hearing is supposed to take place at the ICJ next week.
Amid this, and since 7 October, more than 21,507 people have been murdered in Gaza according to Palestinian Health Ministry. According to 7-27 December report of Euromed, the genocide on Gaza martyred more than 29,000, 101 of them are journalists, displaced almost 2 million people, and demolished 65,600 homes.
