Fighting Sexual Harassment Through Music; 4 Songs That Say It All
Music has always been a strong tool in raising awareness about issues that are, or should be, major topics of discussion within society.
In the past few years, sexual harassment came under the spotlight in the Egyptian community due to the increased number of reported cases, and we’ve been seeing a number of campaigns and initiatives working to support women and raise awareness on the subject. There have been a few songs created addressing the impact of sexual harassment on survivors, explaining the brutality of the crime, and exploring the elements that encourage this culture of violence against women, advocating instead a culture where the blame is put on the perpetrators and not on the survivors.
While there is still much to be said and done, these artists have taken an important step in the right direction. It’s time to break the silence, for good.
