Egypt’s Mobile Libraries To Be Launched In Six Governates

Bringing culture and knowledge to the masses, six of Egypt’s governates will soon be visited by mobile libraries filled with a rich collection of books. This is a passion project by Egypt’s minister of culture Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani who launched the initiative. Beyond books, communities living in Luxor, Qena, Minya, Buhaira Dakahlia and Damietta will also get to engage in fun activities, shows, art exhibitions, workshops for handicrafts, drawing, and coloring.

This is not the first time that portable libraries will be launched in Egypt. Back in 2018, Ines Abdel-Dayem, Egypt’s Minister of Culture at the time spearheaded the first-ever launch of mobile libraries with their first destination being Al-Asmarat neighborhood in Cairo’s Moqattam. Beyond the shows and workshops, at that time, kids also got to participate in artistic competitions with the winners receiving a collection of valuable books.

Fast forward to today, Al-Kilani expressed how she hopes that one day mobile libraries will reach all of Egypt’s governates as a way to promote knowledge and cultural equality among children.
