A car bomb exploded near the home of Egypt’s Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim Thursday morning. Authorities said the bomb targeted the minister’s convoy.

The minister, head of the country’s police forces, survived while four others were reportedly injured.

The Interior Ministry has been the target of previous anti-government and anti-police protests, and the minister himself has recently claimed in local news that he receives death threats.

The bombing took place in the Nasr City district of Cairo, the site of recent mass protests against and in support of deposed president Mohammed Morsy. Last fall, officials announced that arrested members of an alleged terrorist cell based in Nasr City were planning assassinations on public figures and attacks against state institutions, including the Interior Ministry.
