Are 27% of Divorce Cases in Egypt Caused by Mother in Laws?

Since 2016, there have been UN studies claiming that Egyptian women are ranked the world’s number one in beating and abusing their husbands. Recently, Psychiatrist, Waleed Hendy, was a guest on the ‘Kalam Setat’ talk show where he shared his two cents on the real reasons behind divorce and abuse.

According to Hendy, police reports state that 30% of Egyptian husbands are domestic abuse victims. What’s even more absurd to hear in numbers, is that 27% of Egypt’s divorce rate are caused by a mother in laws interference.

In 2017, Tarek Mansour, Vice Dean of Faculty of Arts in Ain Shams University, announced at the International Conference of the Faculty of Arts on Women and the Future Industry that divorce rate have increased from 7% to 40% during the past 50 years.

Another survey was published by the Central Agency For Public Mobilization and Statistics that claimed the two occupations with highest divorce rates are teachers followed by engineers.
