Marsa Allam Beach Shuts Down After Shark Attack
A 20-year-old female Austrian tourist, Christine Schachinger, was attacked by a shark on Saturday morning in the Red Sea, causing the Minister of Environment, Khalid Fahmy, to ban all diving and snorkeling activities for 48 hours.
Schachinger was in good health after undergoing a hip wound surgery on Saturday. “There is no threat for the Austrian tourist’s life,” medical sources in the Red Sea governorate stated.
According to Egypt Independent, the Rescue and Environment Protection Association in Hurghada stated that “the sightings of dead sheep in Ras Gharib’s beaches in the Red Sea governorate could probably result in catastrophic events, since the dead sheep attract sharks to come ashore which could result in a number of shark attacks.”
