El Mazzikateya : Egypt’s Street Musicians
This city never stops impressing me. I love this city, I love living here and honestly there is nowhere else in the world I would choose to live in. There is always something to experience here.
Apparently, there are many sides of Cairo that I still didn’t know about, we have such great local talents and people who want nothing but to share the happiness with all of us. Every now and then we get to see great initiatives being introduced. The more recent one is El Mazzikateya,
Egypt’s great street musicians’. Yes. People now get to enjoy art in their streets. No tickets, no concerts, EVERYONE is invited, and every musician is highly accepted to just join them and start performing.
El Mazzikateya, are inviting everyone to meet up with them and start singing, or playing any kind of instrument for that matter. They just want to entertain people with no “price tag” The idea is all about a group of young musicians going down in Cairo’s streets and start singing. And people from all walks of life are invited to attend, the only thing you need to have is a passion for art and music.
Their first video on YouTube was uploaded almost a month ago, and now they got over than 30K views, and got noticed by many public figures and other musicians including the young singer Hamza Namira.
Here is their first video, also, check them out on Facebook and make sure to subscribe to their YouTube Channel, so that you won’t miss a performance!
