The Shameful Songs We All Have On Our Playlists

Fun Road Trip

Ever been at a party or in the car with a few friends and had to skilfully shy away from connecting your iPod to the AUX in fear of having a few unwanted songs pop up?

We all have a few embarrassing skeletons in our musical closets and sure, you may claim that you only listen to “The Strokes” or “Cage The Elephant” or some other hip, indie band, but we know you probably have one of these lurking somewhere on your playlist:

“Baby One More Time” – Britney Spears

Hit song of the late 90s and secretly your JAM! Too bad the lyrics are a little too cheesy and if found on your playlist, will literally lead to you becoming a laughing stock amongst all those present at the time.

“Call Me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen

The epitome of bubble-gum pop, the song of all teen girls out there and… also your own guilty pleasure. We get it; it is addictive in really weird, incomprehensible ways.

“Wannabe” – Spice Girls

“Tell me what you want, what you really really want..” We’ll tell you what we want, what we really REALLY want; we want this song off of our playlist, but we don’t have the power to let it go; it’s just way too catchy.

“Baby” – Justin Bieber

For some unholy reason, this song landed on our playlist at some point in time and somehow never left. We’ve seen kiddy pools with more depth that its lyrics, but what can we say? Our music taste truly was whacky at some point.

“No Promises” – Shayne Ward

Ahhhh, nothing like the songs we listened to back when we thought we were crazy in love in middle school. Too bad this song now sounds more sappy than endearing thanks to our souls which have been hardened by the harsh realities of the more adult world.

“Sk8er Boi” – Avril Lavigne

Just looking at the spelling of its title makes us feel bad because of its brutal butchering of the English language. That aside though, we know its lyrics by heart and would totally dance our legs off to it right this instant with no shame whatsoever- okay with a lot of shame, but come on, how can you not?

Any song by 30H!3

Yeah, we listened to those two lads back in the day thinking that we were literally the most badass kids out there, mainly due to the fact that their songs circulated around partying, drinking and hooking up.

If you have any of those gems on your playlist, we honestly feel for you and are currently blushing on your behalf – but it’s okay, we all have our fair share of shameful music pasts!

Always having been a true appreciator of the arts, Aliaa finds herself getting lost in a book, drawing or music piece more often than not. She aims to decipher the dynamics of capitalism and the economy in hopes of linking them to her adamant feminist, humanist, and environmentalist beliefs. She's outspoken about minority rights and will go the extra mile to make her voice heard. She's also shamelessly sarcastic in all the right ways.
