If you think Halloween is silly and would rather hit the gym, you might want to reconsider. Here’s why your Halloween night could be beneficial to your health.

Release your inner ego

What we dress reflects what we believe and affects how we feel and how we act. So unleash the fantasies and dress up to mentally assume the role. By wearing a mask, Mullen et al showed that we have less self-focused attention but paradoxically we tend to feel unmasked and liberated from everyday appearances and our inner self becomes more prominent.

Dance the calories away

THE GREAT GATSBY

Halloween is not just about dressing up in costumes. It’s party time! So don’t stand in the back ogling at others and drinking calories. Hit the dance floor and burn from 150-200 calories in 30 minutes. And who cares if people are watching? You’re wearing a mask.

And if you’re not a party person…

Lose weight sitting on a couch

watching-horror-movies

A study conducted by The University of Westminster showed that an increase in heart rate while watching a horror movie for 90 minutes burns 113 calories, equivalent to a 30 minute walk. And the scarier the movie, the more calories you burn. So get ready for your Halloween movie marathon fright night!

Boost your immunity

In a study, people who watched a horror movie for 90 minutes showed an increase in their white blood cells. In addition to the adrenaline rush from watching horror movies, the release of serotonin helps in resisting stress and avoiding anxiety and depression, which further supports your immune system.

It’s pumpkin time!

Halloween and pumpkin go hand in hand and it really is healthy. Pumpkin is rich in fibers, low in calories and its beautiful orange color is due to beta carotene, a powerful anti-oxidant that the body uses to produce vitamin A essential for healthy eye sight, skin and hair. Pumpkin seeds are a great heart-healthy snack containing phytosterols, which help lower bad cholesterol (LDL).
