Anwar El-Sadat Conferred Congregational Gold Medal By USA’s Congress
The United States of America’s President Donald Trump signed a legislation granting the late Egyptian President, Anwar El-Sadat, the highest civilian honor granted by the American Congress, the Congressional Gold Medal.
The Medal was granted for Sadat’s efforts and “heroic achievements and courageous contributions to peace in the Middle East.”. According to State-owned Al-Ahram, the medal will be conferred next year, the 40th anniversary of the Camp David accords.
This is not the first time that Sadat was bestowed something this honorable. After the Camp David peace treaty was signed, El-Sadat and the Israeli Prime Minister, Menachem Begin, were granted the Nobel Peace Prize, making him the first Muslim Nobel Laureate.
