8 Suggestions We Have for the UAE’s New Minister of Happiness

The UAE is known to be one of the safest countries in the world and, most importantly, one of the happiest. One of the best things you can encounter in the UAE is sitting in Starbucks or a public restaurant and you look next to you to find the Sheikh himself having his coffee or a quick brunch, what else should you expect?! What else could citizens or residents possibly want more than safety, convenience and great, humble leaders?

So I guess it is not easy being Minister of Happiness in a country that already has it all. Well, I came up with some ideas that might make lives in the UAE more cheerful and perfect. Man, it took me a while to come up with these. I am serious, it’s not easy! They might sound stupid, but bear with me, what if:

1. Happy notes

You struggle in the morning, trying to get out of bed to go to work, and on your way out you find a note out of the blue on your apartment door saying, “Smile because you’re beautiful” or, “Just reminding you how awesome you are”. Actually, it happened with a friend of mine in Dubai, but it was on her car window! It actually made her day! So, surprising people every now and then with such notes is not a bad idea after all.

2. Flowers everywhere

Every day is Valentine’s Day, or whatever you want to call it, where you get flowers in appreciation. No one is #foreveralone in the UAE!

3. Free food and desserts once a week

You get to eat whatever you want, once a week, for the whole day, for FREE! I think a lot of people would support that.

4. Double the days off

The official weekend will be double, four days instead of two, and all official holidays are double the normal days. For example, if for Christmas you get five days off, then in the UAE you get 10 and it applies for all holidays. Not bad, huh?

5. Free mobile ACs

It can get really tough in the summer, so each person should get a free, hand-held mobile AC, because in certain cases you will have to get out of the car to get something from a supermarket or drop your laundry off at the dry cleaners, so you’ll need some AC for the distance between your car and the store, wala eh?

6. Free international calls

7

Most residents need to get in touch with their families and friends, especially when it comes to holidays, special occasions or someone just broke up with a boyfriend. Sometimes, you experience breakage in the line from the free call apps that you use to contact them, so offering free international calls can really make someone’s day.

7. A free babysitter

The UAE is known to support women entrepreneurs and working moms, and they have proven that every step of the way. So why not offer these superwomen something that might actually help them benefit their community more, like assigning a free babysitter to each mother who accompanies her at work with her child, in order to give her time and piece of mind to focus on prospering and setting a good example for her child. Ha, who’s with me?

8. Free hugs

And that’s what the Arabs call, “7osn El Khetam.” Every now and then we encounter a long day at work, a rainy day or a hectic day finishing important errands. What is better than ending the day with a big, fat, huggly, cuddly, snuggly hug, am I right?
