63-Year-Old Woman Delivers Baby at Thumbay Hospital in Dubai
In what is being claimed as a first in the UAE (and in most places of the world), a 63-year-old woman has given birth to a healthy girl in Dubai, Thumbay Hospital said in a press release yesterday.
Last year, the Sri Lankan woman and her Indian husband decided to start a family, but they knew they’d have to deal with a few bumps in the road. To overcome the risks associated with late pregnancies, they saw an in vitro fertilization specialist in Chennai (India) who gave her the go-ahead.
The baby, who weighed 2.25 kilograms, was reportedly doing well and was expected to check out of the hospital in a few days.
Despite their advanced age, both parents were reportedly thrilled at the arrival of their newborn daughter. Hospital records revealed that the woman had two grown-up children from a previous marriage and had her last child 13 years ago.
“I think the baby is doing well as she had a good birth weight and no lung immaturity. My patient, the mother, is absolutely fit and can be discharged anytime,” said the hospital’s obstetrician and gynecologist, Jaguad Nirmala, according to the report.
WE SAID THIS: Congratulations, you guys!
