A group of 12 vintage biplanes from the 1920s and 30s are set to land at the Giza Pyramids today, 13 November, sometime in the early afternoon.

The landing represents the first time in 80 years that a group of planes have been permitted to land at the Pyramids. The stop in Egypt is one of many for the vintage aircraft enthusiasts. It’s part of a 12,800-kilometre (8,000-mile) race – something never attempted by so many unique, vintage craft. They set out on Saturday, 12 November, and are expected to take around 35 days to travel through ten countries on their race to South Africa.

“Hopefully, we’ll all get there and have a massive party when we arrive,” said Vintage Air Rally organizer Sam Rutherford. Reuters will have continuing coverage of the race.
