Featuring talking cats wearing galabiyas and eating shawarmas by the old landmarks such as the Volcano Fountain, the Old Souq, and the clock tower. The movie, Catsaway, brings back nostalgic feelings and good memories for those who lived in the 1990s before the landmarks were swept away.
The director of the movie, Fadel AlMuhairi, first set the animation to be a series but as the idea evolved it turned into an animation movie, he also has big dreams for the movie to go global. The movie was produced by Tent Pictures Productions in cooperation with Juice studios in Poland.
The cats in the movie all lived by the Volcano Fountain and spent their time at the Old Souq but when the town started to evolve they end up at the water tank area in Khalidiya as it’s one of the few spots that haven’t been touched in 50 years.
The movie was drawn in the old classic Disney style as they decided to let it have less 3D animation so that they could showcase the backdrop of Abu Dhabi.
