Taylor Swift will join three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep and Oscar winner Jeff Bridges for her role in the movie adaptation of the popular 1993’s Lois Lowry novel, The Giver.

Of course, the seven-time Grammy winner and international superstar Taylor Swift is a talented singer, but is she a talented actress? Well, this will be the pop star’s first big screen appearance since 2010, when she made her film debut in a small role in the romantic comedy Valentine’s Day starring alongside her ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner. She also voiced Audrey in last year’s film adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax and appeared as a surprise guest on Fox’s  New Girl season two finale. But with this new full-length role, this is her chance to prove herself as an actress.

The film follows a boy who learns about the real world in a utopian community without war, pain, racism or choices. It features Katie Holmes as the mother of Jonas, played by Brenton Thwaites, the young boy at the center of the tale, Jeff Bridges as the Giver, and Meryl Streep as the Chief Elder.

Swift will play Rosemary, the Giver’s daughter and his last teen mentored before he meets Jonas. She was offered the supporting role by Harvey Weinstein at the Toronto International Film Festival during the premiere of One Chance for which she co-wrote the song Sweeter than Fiction”, FOX reported.

The sci-fi film, which is written by Michael Mitnick and directed by Salt’s Phil Noyce, will start shooting Oct. 7 in South Africa, and is set to hit theaters on Aug.15, 2014.
