‘Something Else’ Is Back for Its Second Edition and Challenges Creativity Like Never Before

Imagine if the world wars never happened! What if the Great Pyramids of Giza were never built and what would happen if racism never existed? Imagine if things took a different turn and you had the chance to rewrite history, what would you write? Well, “Something Else” is back for its second edition this November with a brand new theme, “What if it did not happen?”, that challenges the artists’ abilities to imagine the unimaginable. The event will take place on the 1st, 2nd, and the 3rd of next month at Darb 1718.

In case you’re not aware of what exactly “Something Else”, it’s a non-profit independent visual arts initiative. It attempts to support Egyptian and international contemporary art. Through an Art Biennale idealized by Chief Curator, Simon Nijami, and Artistic Director, Moataz Nasr, the “Something Else” vision was put into action. More than 110 artists, curators, performers, musicians, and art connoisseurs; both local and international, participated in the first edition of the event which was held back in 2015. With an aim to shatter stereotypes about the role of art in society, artworks and acts bombarded the streets of Cairo.

The second edition invites artists to think out of the box and free minds from the so-called truths we’ve been spoon-fed our entire lives. It’s an opportunity to get creative and for imagination to grow wild. So, brace yourselves, everyone! For what is yet to come is definitely worthwhile! So far, the list of artists who confirmed their participation includes names like Amina Kaddous, Zaina Said, and Erik Malmsten.

WE SAID THIS: We are true believers in the power of art and creativity.
