Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb: An Awe-Inspiring New Netflix Documentary Explores the Ancient Necropolis

In a first-of-its-kind investigative docu-feature, Netflix is planning to release “Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb” on October 28 to show the world the tomb of “Wahtye”, an Old Kingdom priest from ancient Egypt. The 4,500-year-old tomb was found during an unprecedented discovery in 2018 in the Saqqara necropolis. In just a little less than two hours, Netflix will take us on a journey through Egypt’s greatest archeological site, Saqqara, and its most jaw-dropping discoveries.

The feature, which is directed by James Tovell, follows a team of local archaeologists excavating the tomb and its artifacts. During their expedition, they find over 3,000 artifacts, including a temple dedicated to the popular Egyptian cat goddess Bastet, as well as a mummified lion cub, making this the first lion cub to be discovered in Egypt.

As soon as Netflix dropped the trailer, the audience was thrilled to see an all-Egyptian team on a journey to discover their ancestors’ lives, and realize how the ancient Egyptians weren’t too different from the ones living in the country today, adding to the overall uniqueness of the documentary.
