Over the past few years, the design industry in Egypt has been booming with creative ideas and one of a kind initiatives. From award-winning design studios, to product designers focusing on sustainability, Egyptian products are stirring in a new direction, gaining recognition and leaving a mark wherever they go.
Leaving the fancy ornamental style that has been part of every Egyptian household behind, the product designers of this generation are bringing something new, practical and unique to the market.
Celebrating the growth of the product design industry in Egypt, DesignHub’15 is a place where young designers are given a chance to exhibit and present their amazing talents to the world to see.
yellow.
yellow. is a fresh design studio founded by two design fanatics, Nivin Ashraf and Yasmine Elwani, in the busy, inspiring city of Cairo. They believe that fine designs should be accessible and affordable to those who appreciate them.
yellow. focuses on unique concepts, the exploration of materials and form, and experimenting with different manufacturing techniques. Their products are constantly in a process of refinement.
Their first award-winning collection, y6. is a flat pack line that you assemble yourself and that highlights the junction between metal and wood. It simply focuses on emphasizing the connections we have in our daily lives.
Room No. 9
Room No. 9 is a design studio founded by designer Youssra Yassin that explores new ideas through the creation of furniture, products, lighting, textile and home accessories. Focusing on translating Egyptian taste, culture and materials in a new way, Room No. 9 features one-of-a-kind collections. They aim to produce creative, simple designs of very high quality.
Their Geo collection is based on translating geometric patterns in an abstract way and using the traditional “marquetry” technique to get modern shapes and products that truly stand out.
Lab 59
Lab 59 is a multi-disciplinary Cairo-based design studio founded by architects Mohamed Yassin El-Hamaky and Nour El Deen Khaled.
Lab 59 works on a wide rage of innovative and inspiring projects that reflect their style and aesthetic values. Their ambition is to push boundaries and leave an impact through design in the various fields they offer. Their core business is architecture, interior and landscape design.
Fueled by a love for experimenting with new materials, they came across the loofah and found out that its natural parametric-patterned material was very flexible and durable, inspiring them to come up with a line of unique loofah-based products.
Dawayer
Dawayer is an award-winning experimental design studio that cares about turning agricultural wastes into raw materials, as well as making creative designs and products out of them.
Founded by designers Habiba Shawkat, Khadija Radwan, Salma Sherif and Neama El Gawady, Dawayer applies design thinking to serving the community, while offering high-quality products.
Using agricultural waste from the rice harvesting process, Dawayer has created a strong, sustainable, eco-friendly material out of which they make fascinating products that any home would like to have.
Phrase
Phrase is a Cairo-based product design brand founded by Youssef Edward Baskharoon that creates a various range of domestically manufactured products with a fine sense of simplicity and artistic functionality.
Their design approach is to create something new that has its own distinctive character, yet something you feel instantly comfortable with. Their main mission is to deliver products that communicate with the user.

Design Zone – Nedal Badr
Design Zone is a design studio located in Cairo, Egypt founded by Nedal Badr. Specializing in architecture, interior and furniture design, Design Zone takes inspiration from nature and transforms pieces into a style of their own.
Yasmine Fahmy
Yasmine Fahmy is an award-winning designer that focuses on bringing back the beauty of oriental art through beautiful metal lighting units.
With patterns that create mesmerizing shadows, Fahmy creates lighting units that will take your breath away.
Inspired by Islamic, Coptic and even ancient Egyptian art, Fahmy uses the art from our cultures to come up with her fascinating lighting units.
