By Malak Khaled

Broadcaster and social media influencer Dalia Fouad, known for her role as the presenter of the “Darb Nar” program, has been referred to the Criminal Court on charges related to trafficking the drug “GHB” (gamma hydroxybutyrate).

Fouad has also hosted the second season of “Sadeem” and appeared in a few acting roles, adding to her public profile. The case, as detailed by the Ministry of Interior, outlines an alleged smuggling operation involving the substance and its promotion through social media platforms.

Alleged Smuggling and Promotion

In mid-November, authorities announced the arrest of Dalia Fouad and her partner, a foreign national living in New Cairo, for smuggling GHB into Egypt. Since then, legal measures have been taken, and the Public Prosecution Office has assumed control of the case. On January 1, 2025, officials confirmed that she will be facing criminal court.

Fouad is accused of using her social media platform to promote the drug among young people in exchange for financial commissions. During her arrest, law enforcement found a bottle of GHB and other substances in her possession.

Her alleged role in facilitating the drug’s distribution has drawn significant public attention, given her prominent position as a public figure on social media.

The drug was reportedly smuggled by disguising it as cleaning products to avoid detection. Investigators from the General Administration for Combating Drugs seized 180 liters of GHB, with an estimated value of approximately 145 million Egyptian pounds

What Is GHB?

GHB, a substance often misused for sexual assault, is often referred to as a “date rape drug” due to its sedative effects when consumed.

It comes in the form of a clear, odorless, oily liquid. It is typically diluted in soft drinks and swallowed.

In high doses, it can cause loss of consciousness, seizures, difficulty seeing, and an inability to remember what happened while under its influence.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and the significance of maintaining ethical standards on social media platforms.

It also serves as a reminder of the broader social and legal challenges posed by the illegal drug trade and the critical role of law enforcement in protecting communities from its impact.
