Man Saved By Shark – That’s New

Anyone who knows me knows my love for Animal Planet, especially when anything related to Sharks comes on! I’m a huge loser like that and quite proud of it, I rather stay in on a Thursday night (ok i’m lying a bit, unless it’s about Great Whites) This makes me sound like i have a shark fetish doesn’t it?

Anyways, all my shark excitement aside, a man from the Micronesian island of Kiribati was saved by a shark after being lost at sea for 150 days!

On May 28th Teitoi and his brother-in-law Ielu Falaile got into their 15 ft wooden boat that was supposed to take them back home to the mainland where Teitoi was to be sworn in as a policeman. Halfway through their journey the two men decided to stop and fish along the way, getting caught up in the sport they lost time, and their gas and water reserves were depleted, leaving them stranded at sea!

Five weeks into being lost at sea, the two drifted in the pacific ocean suffering from dehydration and starvation, which eventually took the life of Falaile on July 4th, approximately 38 days after they set sail. With no boats passing by, very little rain water, and only surviving on a diet of Fish, Teitoi was waiting for the same fate his brother-in-law saw, until one morning the strangest thing happened!

While napping, a six-foot shark banged into the hull of his boat intentionally, which awoken the man, he continued to circle the boat, and then suddenly swam off. The shock and fear made the man awaken, to see that a boat was passing by, and the crew was looking for him. Teitoi believes that the shark was guiding him to the fishing boat, and accredits him for saving his life.

Teitoi was reunited with his family on September 16th!

We Said This: Scary, sad, and truly riveting. That’s way to hell of a long time to be lost at Sea!
