Lost in Florence: Radiohead

0

For those who don’t already know, I am crazy about Radiohead. If I had to listen to one band everyday for the rest of my life, it would be Radiohead without a doubt.

That’s why the 23rd of September was a special day; it was the day I finally got to go to Radiohead’s live concert.

I found out about the concert online while I was in Cairo, I immediately had a panic attack once I read that they were performing live in Florence.
The only problem was that my friends in Florence had never even heard of Radiohead, not even the main promoters had any idea.

So not only did I have to go all the way to the concert by MYSELF, but I also started to think it wasn’t real since no one had heard about it.

Being the obsessive fan I am, I took my chances and started walking, got on the tram and was dropped at Cascine park.
“Shit, this park is bigger than I expected” I thought, and I kid you not, the park seemed endless to me, and Radiohead’s concert was a few kilometers away ( that is if it existed).

I started acting like a dumb tourist and followed the crowd. A few kilometers away, I was friends with a group of Italians, I don’t even know how I became friends with them, I don’t understand anything they say and I can’t even be bothered to speak to them in English since I know it won’t do me any good either way! However we all had one goal, to make our way to the stage.

The place was swarmed with thousands of people all over each other trying to get closer to the stage, and I was one of them, i mean come on it’s Radiohead! If I ever have to be an asshole, now would be the right time.

The band took the stage and it was insane, the lights, the music, the people, the place, everything all at once! I started moving closer and closer until I got a good spot (At least a good enough spot for a short person like myself) and started listening.

Thom Yorke’s voice is as beautiful as I thought it would be live, I was able to watch each member of the band do their own thing as they performed some of my favourite songs. Regardless of the fact that I was surrounded by topless, high people; it was one of the happiest moments in my life. I want to play that night on repeat every single day.

Except for the walking part, the getting lost part and the “someone almost breaking my back” part.
