Halloween 2013 Costume Ideas

Halloween is just around the corner! You can always go wild and wear spooky costumes OR you can take some inspiration from fashion icons and big hit movies. How about a blast from the past? Whether you’re a couple who want to share the same theme (super cute) or you’re single and still don’t have a clue about what you’re going to wear, here are some Halloween costume ideas that are both chic and wearable for both Oct. 31 and a normal day.

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby was this summer’s fashion buzzword, with suits from the Brooks Brothers, dresses form Prada and Miu Miu along with jewelry form Tiffany. For the gentlemen, go for the Yale-educated, Skull & Bones Society-member, Tom Buchanan look. Wear a blue print striped three piece suit, a blue shirt and a straw boater to complete the look. For the ladies, a drop-waist pink midi dress would be perfect. A black, slim fit dress will do the trick as well. Makeup and accessories are make it or break it steps.

For makeup, go for pale matte foundation, dark eye shadows, false long lashes, dark red lipstick and, last but not least, choose a spot on your face for a beauty mark made with the tip of a brown or black eyeliner. You won’t be in the jazz age without headbands, rhinestone hair pins, pearl necklaces and vintage bracelets. A box clutch, a high heel with metallic or lace details and a faux fur scarf will complete the 20’s gal look.

Bonnie and Clyde

The notorious, bank-robbing duo is iconic and adopting their look is so easy. For the girls, it’s a piece of cake: a tactile knit, a tweed pencil skirt (which is a must have this fall), a silk scarf and a beret. What’s really amazing about this look is that it’s wearable any day, any time. For the guys: a plaid suit will do the trick, but don’t forget the hat and a cigar.

60’s Fashion Icons

When I think of the 60’s, the first two people who pop up in my mind are the incomparable Mr. James Bond and Ms. Audrey Hepburn. Both are fashion icons whose style is immortal. The Breakfast at Tiffany’s star’s style is simple to adopt. Wear your favorite LBD with a classic pearl necklace and you’ll look just like her in seconds. The key to this look is styling your hair in Audrey Hepburn’s iconic up-do and mimicking her black cat-like eyeliner.

For the guys, remember that black tuxedo you paid a fortune for and wore only once? Now is the perfect time to wear it. A smoking jacket, black pants, a white shirt and a bow tie and you’re good to go, Agent 007.

Grease

This look is super easy, fun and iconic. Biker jackets are winter must-haves for both guys and girls. To be Sandy, you’ll need a black, off-the-shoulder top, black skinny pants, red heels and your black biker jacket. Curl your hair and voila, you got the look. For the guys, you’ll need your biker jacket, a white T-shirt and a pair of dark jeans and you’re Danny – but don’t forget the hair gel!

The Hunger Games

For a modern teen look, go for The Hunger Games stars Peeta and Katniss. For Katniss you will need a black V-neck shirt, black windbreaker, dark cargo pants, a toy bow, and a backpack full of arrows. This look is best for dark- and long-haired girls – braid your hair and you’ll have the complete look. For Peeta, you’ll need a black T-shirt, green cargo pants and black combat or hiking boots.

Finally, always remember that Halloween is about having fun and enjoying your time, so choose a costume that will make you feel comfy.

WE SAID THIS: There’s a fine line between looking sexy and looking slutty, so watch out girls!
