Everything You Need To Know About The Historic Meeting Between Biden & Sheikh Mohamed

In what is termed a historic visit, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with US President Joe Biden on Monday. It was the first time that a UAE president officially made a visit to Washington. The two leaders discussed conflicts in the Middle East and Sudan, among other important issues.

Talks On Gaza

During their meeting, the two leaders made sure to discuss the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Both Biden and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed called for “urgent, unhindered” humanitarian aid to be delivered to Gaza. They also stressed their commitment to a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

The Situation in Sudan

Shifting their focus to Sudan, the joint statement addressed the Gulf state’s aid efforts in the conflict. Both leaders also emphasized that there is no military solution to the ongoing war, which has triggered one of the world’s largest displacement crises.

Advancing Bilateral Relations

The meeting also involved reviewing various aspects of their bilateral ties, especially in the fields of trade, investment, economy, advanced technology, renewable energy, and space. Their relations span more than 50 years, and this meeting further strengthened them.

When it comes to AI, the White House released a statement on the latest developments between the two nations, “They welcomed the partnership between Microsoft and Group 42 (G42) through Microsoft’s $1.5bn investment in April 2024.  This investment accelerates joint AI development and brings advanced AI and digital infrastructure to countries in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.”

When it comes to the future, what was gleaned from the meeting is that both nations will dive further into the world of AI and advanced technology, as these areas are focal points of interest for both countries.
