Lights, Camera, Solidarity: El Gouna Film Festival Kicks Off 6th Edition With An Ode To The Palestinian Community

After getting postponed twice, the sixth edition of the widely coveted El Gouna Film Festival is coming back on December 14. The new edition is quite special as in solidarity with the people of Palestine, it will not be celebrating opening or closing ceremonies as well as other special celebrations. But that doesn’t mean that there will not be many exciting events, so here’s what to expect.

Elyanna Set To Slay The Stage On Opening Night

Kicking off with a bang is a special performance by Palestinian-Chilean artist Elyanna who will grace opening night. Seeing her on the stage with her beautifully haunting voice will be a true special ode to the Palestinian nation.

Palestinian Voices Set To Take Center Stage

Shining a special spotlight on Palestinian narratives is the festival’s latest addition. In collaboration with the Palestine Film Institute, the festival is introducing the “Window on Palestine” program featuring a curated selection of films exploring challenges faced by Palestinians including the 2014 Gaza war.

Huda El Mufti, Bushra & More In Enriching Workshops

For five whole days, El Gounies, the name given to anyone attending the film festival will get to dive into the behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking through a collection of workshops and panels. There’s everything from a special Marwan Hamed masterclass to an all-star workshop that will include Bushra and Hula El Mufti.

Egyptian Shorts Dominating The Short Film Competition

This year, several short films have been dominating the festival circuits with the biggest hotshots including Sixty Pounds, a film that sheds light on rapper Ziad Zaza during his first acting role. These films will be getting a well-deserved spotlight at this year’s GIFF.

Aspiring Filmmakers Take Their Shot At The CineGouna Market

The festival is offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to network and collaborate at their CineGouna Market. With their latest networking platform includes mentorship programs, pitching sessions and more with production companies, distribution firms and the like for aspiring filmmakers.
