The Dubai Opera Opens Its Doors With A Mesmerizing Performance By Placido Domingo
The Dubai Opera swung open its doors to the public for the first time on Wednesday night, presenting a successful opening performance by Spanish tenor, Placido Domingo. His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was seen arriving at the venue before the doors were open to the waiting public.
According to Dubai Opera’s chief executive, Jasper Hope, a number of shows are already sold out, and everything else on the schedule is selling really, really well. Over 70 performances have already been announced for the first four months.
The 2,000-capacity venue blends modernity with tradition. The building’s design is inspired by Dubai’s long maritime history, with its beautifully lit Arabian dhow, which sits in perfect harmony with the towering Burj Khalifa in the background, improving on what is already one of Dubai’s iconic settings, and other architectural elements referring to the country’s seafaring traditions.
