Dubai Just Hired the First Female Public Bus Drivers in the Middle East!

It was just revealed that three women in Dubai have become the first female public bus drivers in the Middle East! The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai announced on Monday that it recruited the first batch of female bus drivers for deployment on the internal bus network.

The three female bus drivers started operation on 3rd July. This initiative goes with the best global practices of employing female drivers likewise their male counterparts. The step creates job opportunities for women in a field dominated by men and promotes the culture of using public transport in the community thus contributing to the delivery of better services to clients. RTA has kicked off the initial stage of this project by selecting and employing three female drivers at world-class standards. The three new employees began on the 3rd of July, joining 165 taxi drivers, 41 limousine chauffeurs, and one school bus driver who are also women. Even more women are expected to join in the near future, which creates job opportunities in a field normally dominated by men.

“I chose this career because I think I can contribute to the growth of the RTA as the first lady public bus driver in the Middle East,” said one of the three women who got hired for the job.

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA’s Public Transport Agency stated, “RTA is always keen to continue its pioneering efforts. The initiative of employing female bus drivers is unprecedented in the Middle East region. The step is also in line with the RTA’s principle of empowering women and achieving gender balance across various jobs.”
