DIY: Instagram Photo Strips
This is the perfect DIY Valentine’s Day gift for the Instagram addict in your life. Inspired by vintage photo booth strips, these modern-day versions are meaningful, creative, sentimental and are sure to impress your lover or loved one on V-day.
What you’ll need:
- Instagram photos
- Photo strip template
- For a true do-it-yourself experience: color printer, photo paper and scissors
- For a shortcut: your local photo shop
Method:
1. Create your photo strip template. If you’re savvy with this kind of thing, you can use your usual program. For those of us who aren’t Photoshop whizzes, we recommend using http://pixlr.com/editor/.
Choose “Create a new image.”
In the next window, rename “Untitled” with “V-Day Photo Strip”, for example.
Set the dimensions to 325 x 1,600 pixels.
Keep this pixlr.com tab open in your web browser.
2. Now you’ll need to choose the Instagram photos you want to use. You can either access Instagram from your laptop and take screenshots of the photos you want to print, or go to web.stagram.com and login with your Instagram account. You’ll be able to search for your loved ones’ photos or look through your own account from there.
3. Once you have the photo you want, right-click and copy. Then go back to the pixlr.com tab and paste (ctrl+v or command+v if you’re using a Mac). Keep doing this with all the photos you want to use (one photo strip will fit five photos – feel free to make as many photo strips as you like) and arrange the photos using your keyboard’s left, right, up and down arrow keys. Click “File” then “Save” and choose a location on your computer to save the photo strip.
4. To print the strips yourself, open the photo strip file from a word processor program (like Microsoft Word) and resize the image to fit the page. You can fit multiple strips on a single page. Then print the document on photo paper and carefully cut the strips.
5. Alternatively, you can save the photo strip file to a USB and bring it to any photo shop for them to print and cut for you.
6. You can customize the strips even further by drawing on the borders, adding stickers, writing a favorite quote or personal note on the back, or punching a hole at the top of the strips and tying them together.
WE SAID THIS: Happy V-Day from the Empire!
