A Screen Showing Belly Dancer Safinaz Was Spotted Hanging On Qaytbay Mosque
Social media has spotted the most controversial scene in 2017 that redefined the hashtag #OnlyInEgypt. Just this week, a Sahel club has been shut down for being “inappropriate” and drinking on Sahel beaches has been banned. Yet, in a parallel universe, all the way back in Cairo, a belly dancer was seen shimmying near the walls of a mosque.
The Qaytbay mosque, built by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaytbay in Cairo’s Northern Cemetery in 1474, has received quite the makeover. A screen showing a dancing Safinaz was spotted hanging between the mosque’s dome and minaret. How much more controversial can Egypt get?
