Egyptian athletics just made history. At only 18, Aseel Osama Abdel Hamid has won Egypt’s first-ever gold medal at the World Athletics U20 Championships, taking the top spot in the women’s javelin throw in Eugene, Oregon.
And she did it with a seriously impressive throw.
Gold With a 59.82m Throw
Competing at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Aseel sent the javelin 59.82 metres to take the top spot on the podium.
Croatia’s Vita Barbić followed with 56.60m for silver, while Chinese Taipei’s Tai Yu-chen took bronze with 54.27m.
Already Breaking Records
This win is just the latest milestone in what’s shaping up to be a very exciting year for the young Egyptian athlete.
Earlier in 2026, Aseel threw 60.97m to win the African senior title, becoming the African U20 record holder in the process.
Now, she’s added a World Championships gold medal to the list and she’s only 18.

And She’s Just Getting Started
Aseel is already looking ahead to the next big stage: the World Athletics Championships for seniors in China in 2027.
If 2026 is anything to go by, Egypt might want to keep an eye on that javelin.
