Music is our drug of choice; we turn to tunes when we want to celebrate, as well as when we want to commiserate.
Here are 10 songs about numbing the pain:
Sia – “Chandelier”
Party girls don’t get hurt / Can’t feel anything, when will I learn / I push it down, push it down
Tove Lo – “Habits”
Staying in my play pretend / Where the fun ain’t got no end / Can’t go home alone again / Need someone to numb the pain
Cat Power – “Lived In Bars”
We’ve lived in bars / And danced on tables / Hotels, trains and ships that sail / We swim with sharks / And fly with aeroplanes out of here
Drake – “Marvin’s Room”
Sprite in that mixture, I’ve been talking crazy girl / I’m lucky that you picked up / Lucky that you stayed on / I need someone to put this weight on
Amy Winehouse – “Back To Black”
And life is like a pipe / And I’m a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside
Brad Paisley and Alison Kraus – “Whiskey Lullaby”
She put him out like the burnin’ end of a midnight cigarette / She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin’ to forget
Frank Ocean – “Novacane”
Love me now, when I’m gone, love me none / Love me none, love me none, numb, numb, numb, numb
Hozier – “Sedated”
We are deaf, we are numb / Free and young and we can feel none of it
Pink Floyd – “Comfortably Numb”
There is no pain, you are receding / A distant ship on the horizon / You are only coming through in waves
Florence and the Machine – “Shake It Out”
And I’m damned if I do and I’m damned if I don’t / So here’s to drinks in the dark at the end of my road / And I’m ready to suffer and I’m ready to hope
