From Concrete to Reactors: How Egypt’s Dabaa Nuclear Plant Is Set To Power 6,200 Jobs and Billions in Revenue
All the way to Marsa Matrouh is a project that will propel Egypt into the world of nuclear power. Known as the Dabaa Nuclear Plant project, it will not only help the country tap into the nuclear industry but also give young Egyptians access to 6,200 job opportunities.
Many positions will open up, including those for steel fixers, concrete workers, HVAC installers, electricians, welders, and more. The focus is on supporting a skilled workforce that will continue to grow.
How It All Began…
The power plant project is actually part of Egypt’s nuclear program, which launched in 1954. Back in 1983, El Dabaa was selected as the site for the power plant.
Fast-forward to 2015, when Russia and Egypt signed an agreement to build a nuclear power plant estimated to be worth $26 billion in Dabaa. The power plant is currently under construction in the Matrouh governorate.
It will be home to four reactors, each generating up to 1,200 megawatts. In June, the ENRRA requested a construction permit to build dry casks to store used/spent nuclear fuel for at least 100 years. By 2030, the plant will be operating at full capacity.
In the future, with all the plans set out for the power plant, it is expected to generate a new revenue of $264 billion over a 60-year period.
