As “The Penguin” Premieres Today On OSN+ In The Middle East, Here Are Our Thoughts
Last night, we attended Dubai’s exclusive premiere of “The Penguin.” Powered by OSN+, the event celebrated the character Oz Cobb, AKA The Penguin, taking control of Gotham City’s crime underworld. Played by Colin Farrell, the story is a spin-off of where the 2022 “Batman” film left off.
Unless you read the credits or have prior knowledge about “Batman” it will be simple to miss Farrell though he is the titular character. Through superb prosthetics and a heavy accent, he takes on a whole persona that transports viewers to New York in a second.
And in case you’re wondering, the name The Penguin comes from the way in which Oz Cobb walks as it resembles the animal.
Alongside Farrell’s spectacular acting, there’s Cristin Milioti, you know, the mother from “How I Met Your Mother.” Well, in “The Penguin,” let’s just say that she’s far from being ‘motherly.’
Milioti truly breaks out of her mold by playing a psychotic villain, vying against The Penguin for control over the crime underworld. Through the role of Sofia Falcone, she explores layers and introduces new depths to the world of Gotham, considering that Falcone wasn’t in the Batman films before; however, she’s referenced in the DC Comics.
Both showcase stellar performances from the pilot episode, and it’s clear that the limited show will spotlight them for upcoming award seasons.
You should tune in to “The Penguin” if you’re looking for something that has “The Sopranos” vibes, a mafia-esque genre, while still managing to be witty and original. Airing a new episode every Sunday on OSN+.
Now, the only question is, “Will The City Be His?”
